Running kwant

Kwant can be run on Mac or Linux systems. The most convenient way to do so is through jupyter notebooks, installed via anaconda. Be sure to get the version for python3.6. Next, install kwant. Unfortunately, kwant is not available for Windows. I will look for options to run from a remote Linux server. You may then start a jupyter notebook (you may need to "log in" using the token that you will be given) and navigate to a place where you have saved the files you wish to run.

For examples showing continuum physics I suggest the following files:

QW.ipynb is the disordered quantum wire demo done in class.
3.2.QHE.ipynb is the quantum Hall demo done in class, taken from the kwant tutorial.
3.1.AB.ipynb is an exercise on the Aharanov-Bohm effect, also from the kwant tutorial.

For examples of tight-binding models I suggest:

2.1.Discretizing-Hamiltonians-computing-spectra.ipynb to see how tight-binding is implemented in kwant
3.4.graphene_qshe-cheat.ipynb for applications to graphene and to the quantum spin Hall effect.
